| BE REALISTIC. Make
small changes over time in what you eat and the level
of activity you do. Small steps work better than
giant leaps. |
| BE ADVENTUROUS. Expand
your tastes to enjoy a variety of foods. |
| BE FLEXIBLE. Balance
what you eat and the physical activity you do over
several days. No
need to worry about just one meal or one day. |
| BE SENSIBLE. Enjoy
all foods, just don't overdo it. |
| BE ACTIVE. Walk
the dog, don't just watch the dog walk. |
| BE COMMITTED. Ask
God to give you the strength to WIN. |
- Just say no to super size. Keep in
mind that a McDonald’s Happy Meal is actually the
appropriate portion size for both kids and adults. It
was the standard in the 1960s, before super-sizing, and
is still sufficient.
- Be open to new options. Fast food
chains are beginning to look in new, healthier directions
because of competition and a national trend toward healthier
choices. Burger King has introduced a veggie burger,
and more salads are available.
- Watch the sides. Instead of fries,
try a side salad. Or order a single burger or grilled
chicken sandwich, cut the mayo, take it home and add
some fruit and baked chips.
- Ignore sodas. Water or low-fat milk
are much healthier and have less sugar.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a child’s
weight and height. BMI is a reliable indicator of body
fatness for most children and teens. BMI
is an inexpensive and easy-to-perform method of screening
for weight categories that may lead to health problems.

What do you, the trees, and a hamster have in common?
Give up? You all need water. All living
things must have water to survive, whether they get it
from a water fountain, a rain cloud, or a little bottle
attached to the side of a hamster cage.
